[UNDERSTANDING FROM THE HADITH]
1) From the viewpoint of the noble ayah “so recite what is easy [for you] of the Quran” [Sura al-Muzamil ayah no.20] and other proofs, making it compulsory to recite other particular (suras) at an appointed time apart from the fatiha is not established, however it is better to adhere to reciting the sunah recitations (where it is known that the Prophet (Sallalahu Alayhi Was-Sallam) recited a certain sura in a prayer)
2) It is established that the Messenger of Allah (Sallalahu Alayhi Was-Sallam) recited the following suras in the Magrib prayer:
– Sura at-Tur (Sahih Bukhari: (no.765) and Sahih Muslim: (no.463), al-Itihaf ul-Basim (no.69))
– Surah al-A’raf in two rakats (Sunan an-Nasa’i (2/170) hadith (no.992) and its chain is authentic)
– The Qisarul Mufasil suras meaning from Surah al-Bayinah to the end (of the Quran sura an-Nas) (Sunan an-Nasa’i (2/167) hadith (no.983) and its chain is [Hasan] good and Ibn Khuzaimah authenticated it: (no.520) and Ibn Hibaan: al-Ihsan (no.1837))
3) Ibn Umar (Radi Allahu Anhu) used to prayed surah al-Fatihaa and one surah from the Quran in four rakats of the individual prayer. (Muwatta Imam Malik (1/79) hadith (no.171), and its chain is authentic)
