The Description (Explanation) of the Character of the Prophet (Sallalaahu Alayhi wa-Sallam)
[43] And with the same chain of narration that A’isha, the wife of the Prophet (Sallalahu Alayhi Was-Sallam) said, “The Messenger of Allah (Sallalahu Alayhi Was-Sallam) did not have to choose between two matters, but that he chose the easier of them as long as it was not a wrong action. If it was a wrong action, he was the furthest of people from it. The Messenger of Allah (Sallalahu Alayhi Was-Sallam) did not take revenge for himself unless the limits of Allah were violated. Then he took revenge for it for Allah.”

[UNDERSTANDING FROM THE HADITH]
1) You should refrain from having extreme strictness (hardness) in the dunya and din. The easiest method should be chosen.
2) Sa’id Ibn al-Musayab asked (his students), “Shall I tell you what is better than much prayer and sadaqa?” They said, “Yes.” He said, “Mending discord. And beware of hatred – it strips you (of your din).” (Muwatta al-Imam Malik Yahya’s narration (2/904) hadith (no.1741), and its chain is authentic) Yahya Ibn Sa’id al-Ansari said, “I have heard that by his good character a man can reach the degree of the one who stands in prayer at night and the one who is thirsty from fasting in the heat of the day.” (al-Muwata Yahya’s narration 2/904 hadith no.1740, and its chain is authentic)
3) It is correct to take revenge and retaliation for the religion of Islam. A person of innovation in the religion (rejector of the taqdir) gave salams to Ibn Umar (Radi Allahu Anhu) however he did not reply to his salam and he announced that he is free from the people of innovation in the religion. Sunan at-Tirmidhi (no.2152) and its chain is [Hasan] good and Tirmidhi said, “this hadith is Hasan Sahih gharib”
