Dua At Safa And Marwa
[144] From Malik from Jafar ibn Muhammed ibn AIi from his father from Jabir ibn Abdullah (Radi Allahu Anhu) that the Messenger of Allah (Sallalahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) used to say (the takbir), “Allah is the Greatest” three times when he stopped on Safa, and “There is no diety worthy of worship in truth except Allah, alone, without any partner. To Him belong the Kingdom and praise, and He has power over everything” three times, and make dua. He would then do the same on Marwa.

Transmitted by an-Nasa’i (5/240 hadith no.2975) from the hadith of Ibn ul-Qasim from Malik and narrated by Muslim (no.1218) from the hadith of Jafar Ibn Muhamad.
[UNDERSTANDING FROM THE HADITH]
1) One should go on Safa and Marwa whilst being able to see the house of Allah (Ka’bah) as this is the sunnah.
2) There are seven circuits (laps) whilst doing the Safa and Marwa Sa’i.
(1) From Safa to Marwa (2) From Marwa to Safa (3) From Safa to Marwa (4) From Marwa to Safa (5) From Safa to Marwa (6) From Marwa to Safa (7) From Safa to Marwa
The seventh circuit is the last one. After this the person who is performing Umrah can cut or shave their hair and take off their Ihram. The person performing Hajj Ifrad or Hajj Qiran becomes free from the restrictions of Ihram after throwing the pebbles at the Jamarat and then performing the Qurbani or shaving the hair.
3) Abdullah ibn Umar (Radi Allahu Anhu) used to make dua on Safa saying, “O Allah, You have said, ‘call on Me – I will answer you’ and You do not break Your promise. So I am asking You, in the same way that You have guided me to Islam, not to take it away from me, and that You make me die while I am muslim.”(Muwatta Imam Malik 1/373 hadith no.848 and it’s chain is [Sahih] authentic). From this it is known that making other duas at Safa and Marwa is allowed.
