Joining The Congregational Prayer Should Be Done Calmly And Quietly
[135] From Malik from Al-‘Ala Ibn Abdurahman from his father and Ishaq Ibn Abdullah that they both heard Abu Hurairah (Radi Allahu Anhu) say that the Messenger of Allah (Sallalahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) said, “When the words of Iqama are pronounced, do not come to (prayer) running, but go with tranquility, and pray what you are in time for, and complete (what you have missed) for when one of you is preparing for prayer he is in fact engaged in prayer.”

Al-Muwatta (Yahya’s narration (1/68, 69 hadith no.147, book 3, chapter 1, hadith no.4), at-Tamhid (20/229) al-Istidhkar (no.125)
Transmitted by Ahmad (2/460 hadith no.9932) and al-Bukhari in Juz al-Qira’ah (with my verification: 183, 184) from the hadith of Malik and narrated by Muslim (no.602) from the hadith of al-‘Ala from his father from Abu Hurairah (Radi Allahu Anhu).
[UNDERSTANDING FROM THE HADITH]
1) Ibn Abdul Bar said about the saying, ‘and whatever you miss you should make it up’, “This is a proof that whatever the person has prayed behind the Imam is counted as the first part of his prayer.” (at-Tamhid 20/234)
2) It is not necessary for everyone to come to the Masjid before the Iqamah has been given however it is better for them that they reach the Masjid before the first takbir of the prayer.
3) It is prohibited to run to the Salah. However in an emergency it is allowed to come quickly on the condition that it is done calmly and quietly.
4) Whosoever joins the Imam in the prayer then he should count that rak’ah as his first one. For example when the Imam stands up for the second rak’ah and it is the late comers first rak’ah then the late comer will not do the rafyul yadain whilst the Imam will do the rafyul yadain. Then when the late comer prays his second rak’ah and stands up then he will do rafyul yadain. At this time it will be the Imam’s third rak’ah and the Imam will not do rafyul yadain.
