Narration No. 1258
Shaykh Al-Islam Abu Isma’il Al-Harawi said: I heard Abu Ya’qub saying: I heard Al-Khalil bin Ahmad saying: I heard Abu’l-Husayn At-Tabasi say:
“I heard Abu Sa’id Al-Istakhri speaking, and a man came to him and said, ‘Is it permissible to do Istinja’ with bones?’
He said, ‘No.’
He asked, ‘Why?’
He said, ‘For verily the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: It is the provisions of your brothers from the Jinn.’¹
So he said to him, ‘Is man superior, or the Jinn?’
He said, ‘Rather, it is man.’
He replied, ‘So why is it permissible to do Istinja’ with water whilst it is the provisions of man?’
So he (Abu Sa’id) leapt at him and grabbed him by the neck, whilst saying, ‘O Zindiq (Heretic)! You oppose the Messenger of Allah ﷺ!?’ – and he began to strangle him, If I didn’t rescue him, he would have killed him.”
(Dhamm Al-Kalam wa Ahilihi #1258, with the Tahqiq of ‘Abdullah bin Muhammad bin ‘Uthman Al-Ansari, and Shaykh Zubayr ‘Aliza’i said, ‘Its chain of narration is Hasan.’ [Tahqiqi Islahi aur ‘Ilmi Maqalat 2/568])
